Which RFID implementations are possible?
A customer approached us and expressed a desire to use RFID technology to document their ambulance inventory lists on a daily basis. Items such as emergency kits, defibrillators, etc. had to be provided with RFID tags. Years of experience taught our customers that it often takes a lot of time to check the ambulance for completeness of equipment before or after each deployment. RFID tags speed up this process, especially because they report themselves. Additional devices did not have to be purchased because our app could be installed on the mobile devices already used in the ambulance and connected to a reader via Bluetooth.

How does the RFID technology work and which objects can be inventoried?
Whether office IT, server rooms or goods such as furniture, coffee machines, smartphones, cars and various other objects - basically everything can be provided with an RFID tag and inventoried in passing. A walk through the room is usually sufficient to ensure a successful scan of all RFID tags.
There are basically two types of RFID tags:
- Active RFID tags can draw on their own energy source. This allows information about a specific asset to be sent automatically at regular time intervals using a radio signal.
- Passive RFID tags, on the other hand, do not have their own power supply. They are activated as soon as an RFID reader is nearby and then start transmitting the relevant data.
One advantage of the RFID technology is that there is no need to search under the desk at all – including in the drawer. The broadcast reception signals even penetrate through materials such as wood, plastic and clothing. Unlike barcode labels, RFID tags are also scanned when they are dirty or externally damaged.
