Add the Remote Scan module to Asset.Desk Basic to read Windows devices and SNMP-enabled devices at the push of a button or time-controlled from a central location (remotely) and import their hardware and software data into the inventory database. Using the Asset.Desk Tracker, you can detect devices in the network via IP range, domain list or Active Directory and combine them in a scan list. Objects that should not be scanned automatically can easily be moved to an exclusion list. All scans can be scheduled, and you can store more details about each scan run using individual scan profiles. Threshold values help you to keep an eye on which devices were no longer accessible over a defined period of time.

Windows scan

The remote scan of the Windows devices is done via WMI and provides very detailed information about the complete hardware and software on the target clients. Included are e.g. data on hard disks, CPU and RAM as well as operating system and installed software. In detail, the scan also reads the Windows build number for the OS, the UEFI secure boot status for the BIOS and data from the connected monitors. In addition, virtual machines are also scanned and automatically recognized and displayed as virtual systems.

SNMP scan

The Asset.Desk Tracker supports SNMP V1-3 for SNMP scanning. In addition to the basic information, you can also have individual data read out via the MIB profiles of the devices. For this purpose, you can create private profiles for the individual devices and series. Asset.Desk offers an integrated MIB browser for this purpose.

Unlike remote scanning, the Scanning Agent Windows provides comprehensive device and software information behind firewalls and other client security mechanisms, regardless of remote access rights. The Scanning Agent Windows can report the current hardware and software data as well as configuration information of the Windows computers to the central asset management database, the Asset.Desk Manager, at the start of the computer, at a preset time and even at the push of a button.

Windows Agent PLUS – For more technical data!

For all those who want to scan their devices down to the smallest detail, there is the Scanning Agent Windows PLUS. It provides you with additional data of CPU, mainboard, BIOS, operating system and RAM – down to the smallest detail like e.g. Package, Max TDP (power dissipation in Watt), Technology (nm), Core VID (voltage in Volt), Instruction Set, Core Speed, Core Temperature, Bus Speed, Cache sizes at CPU, ROM Size of the BIOS, specification and type of the RAM modules etc.
The Scanning Agent Windows cooperates with the software distribution solution Install.Desk: Immediately after the completion of a distribution job, the agent triggers a (software) scan of the affected devices. This means that the new software version of these devices is available in the inventory or asset database without delay.

Dabei unterstützt der Linux Agent die Betriebssysteme Novell/SuSE Enterprise Server (Versionen 9, 10 und 11), SuSE Linux Enterprise Desktop (Versionen 10 und 11) sowie OpenSuSE (11 und 12), Mandriva Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 und 6, Ubuntu, Debian und Fedora. Die Unterstützung weiterer Linux-Derivate wird in Kürze möglich sein.

The MacOS Scanner enables you to automatically read the detailed hardware, software and network data of Apple Mac-based end devices (MacOS operating systems 10.5 (Power PC), 10.6, 10.7 and beyond) and feed them to the Asset.Desk database.

The MacOS scanner is not a local service. Nothing has to be installed on the end devices. The scanner accesses the clients via SSH-remote and starts the scan software in the SSH connection.

The “IGEL Scanner” is a local service that automatically reads the hardware and software data from all common IGEL thin clients, especially from UDx series devices.

In addition to the extensive hardware data, the scan data also includes data on the Linux derivative and the firmware version. Besides the installed software as well as the installed features are scanned in each case with version.

The Asset.Desk tracker distributes the IGEL scanners to the target computers via SSH and controls the scan. The scan data is returned in Asset.Desk format via Samba.

The AIX agent reads the hardware and software data of AIX-based systems and servers from version 6. The Perl-based AIX agent can be installed and executed from the tracker on the target system via an SSH session. The scan data is returned in Asset Desk format via http(s) or Samba.

The Solaris for SPARC scanner reads hardware and software data from SPARC systems powered by Solaris. The Perl-based scanner can be installed and run from the tracker on the target system via an SSH session. The scan data is returned in Asset.Desk format via http(s) or Samba. Solaris version 10 or higher is supported.

The Solaris for x86 scanner is used to scan hardware and software data from Solaris-powered x86 systems. The Perl-based scanner can be installed and run from the tracker on the target system via an SSH session. The scan data is returned in Asset.Desk format via http(s) or via Samba. Solaris version 11 or higher is supported.

By inventorying virtual environments such as vCenter (VMware and ESXi) and Hyper-V, you get all the data about hosts, guest systems and storage structures you need to efficiently manage your datacenter hardware and software in Asset.Desk! In the case of vCenter, the VCenter SDK reads the data directly from the ESXi virtual environment, so you also get the hardware data from the ESXi physical host systems.

With the Cloud Scanner, resources from MS Azure and Google Cloud can be inventoried. In addition, the cloud scanner can be used to access purchased license plans, software products, and authorized users in the Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud. This gives you a complete overview of the current status of your software subscriptions and resources in the cloud in one system.

Azure Cloud Inventory
Your subscriptions are inventoried with the resources you use. You define in the tracker which subscriptions and which resources are to be scanned in detail. The scanned Azure resources are stored in the Asset.Desk central database and displayed in a tree structure in the Manager. In addition to the overview of all resources, the data of the virtual machines, app services, storage accounts and databases of your Azure Cloud environment are scanned.

Google Cloud Inventory
Your subscriptions (Projects) are inventoried with the corresponding resources. The scanned Google resources are also stored in Asset.Desk’s central database and displayed in a tree structure in the Manager. Specifically, data from virtual machines, app services, storages (buckets) and databases in your Google Cloud environment is scanned.

Office 365 Licensing
The cloud scanner always retrieves the current license plans you have subscribed to, the available services and the assigned authorized user accounts from the Office 365 cloud. Asset.Desk always shows you how many free cloud licenses still exist in your software subscription.

Adobe Creative Cloud Licensing
The cloud scanner retrieves the software products you have purchased, applications and services included, and their associated qualifying user accounts from the Adobe Creative Cloud. Asset.Desk also gives you an overview of the total and free cloud licenses of your software subscription.
